2023 Camping Season
The Lake Capote campground is currently open four days-a-week. Campers are welcome Thursday through Saturday nights but must depart Sunday. The three exceptions will be Memorial Day, July 3rd, and Labor Day, when campers may stay Sunday night and depart Monday.
Campsites can be reserved from our online campsite booking page, by calling the Bait Shop at 970-883-2273, renting your site at the Bait Shop in person, or self-ticketing at the station outside the Bait Shop.
Campground Rates
Southern Ute Tribal Members receive discounted rates. You will need to show your photo SUIT ID upon arrival and at least one person with a valid SUIT ID must be present on the reserved site during the reservation period.
- Failure to present a valid SUIT ID for RV sites reserved at the SUIT Member rate will result in your credit card being charged the full rental amount.
- Failure to present a valid SUIT ID for tent sites reserved at the SUIT Member rate will result in a canceled reservation and the reserved site(s) will be made available to the public.

Campground Amenities
Our campsites are spacious and well-shaded and some sites include a BBQ grill.
- 10 RV sites with 30 amp electric, potable water connection, fire-ring, and picnic table
- 30 tent sites with fire ring and picnic table
- Bathhouse including public toilets, sinks, and showers with unlimited hot water
- Potable water is accessible throughout the campground
- Centrally located dump station for RV grey/black water
- Centrally located potable water fill station for RVs
Campground Rules
- ALL visitors MUST check in at Bait Shop.
- Failure to present a valid SUIT ID for RV sites reserved at the SUIT Member rate will result in your credit card being charged the full rental amount.
- Failure to present a valid SUIT ID for tent sites reserved at the SUIT Member rate will result in a canceled reservation and the reserved site(s) will be made available to the public.
- No alcohol is allowed. The Southern Ute Indian reservation is “dry”.
- No illegal drug use is allowed.
- No firearms or hunting are allowed at Lake Capote.
- No vehicles are allowed off-road.
- Fires are only allowed in established fire pits.
- Pets MUST be on a leash and you MUST clean up after your pet.
- Quiet Hours are from 9:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m.
- Only 2 vehicles are allowed per site.
- Only 8 people are allowed per site.
- Maximum stay is 18 days.
Cancellation Fee
If you request to cancel your reservation a 10% cancellation fee will be applied to your original booking. You will be refunded 90% of your original booking.
Refund Policy
Refunds will only be issued:
When a reserved campsite unexpectedly becomes unavailable for the reserved use, as determined by Lake Capote Management. Refunds will be determined on a per-day basis that the campsite is unavailable and, therefore, may not be equivalent to the total cost of the initial reservation.
