The Lake Capote Recreation Area has been a Southern Ute Tribal Member camping and fishing destination  for several generations.  The Lake facility has had ongoing renovations and improvements since the dam was rebuilt in 2005 and offers a user friendly and accommodating outdoor recreation facility for Tribal Members to enjoy.  Tribal Member youth (12 and under) and Elders (55 and older) fish for free and Tribal adults (13-54 years old) pay a $4 permit fee for fishing instead of the $10 charged to the general public.  Along with discounted fishing permits all Tribal Members camp for free.  RV sites, including electricity and water, are available to the membership for $10 a night, a 50% discount on the $20 charged to the general public.

Along with standard discounts to Tribal Members fishing at Lake Capote the facility is also available at no cost to Tribal programs servicing youth and other programs offering health services to the Membership.  For more information related to using the Lake for a Tribal function or program please contact the Tribe’s Parks Recreation Manager at (970) 563-0130 extension 2412.
